st. anne's patriarchal seminary

st. anne's patriarchal seminary

The Seminary has been providing priestly formation for the Catholic Church for the whole Middle East since 1886 and is currently facing financial difficulties because of the ongoing war in Syria and the collapsing economy in Lebanon and Syria. The Seminary counts essentially on contributions from the Bishops. Because the Syrian Pound and the Lebanese pound have lost their value, the contributions became almost worthless. This has left the Seminary with a dangerous deficiency in its budget. The Seminary was founded in Jerusalem. It has moved later on to Lebanon because of the war. The security situation in the region as well as the level of education makes Lebanon the ideal place to host the Seminary. Seminarians go daily to universities to follow philosophy and theology classes. At the Seminary, they receive liturgical, musical, and cultural formation aiming at completing the formal theological courses. One of the strongest points of the Seminary, is the special attention given to every Seminarian individually with the aim of building future prayerful and independent leaders for the Church. The costs that the Seminary must cover varies from transportation to energy, water, heating, food, educational and recreational trips, maintenance, and salaries for the staff and for teachers and experts.

HB Patriarch Absi Vision
His Beatitude Patriarch Youssef Absi gives a lot of importance for the formation of Seminarians. Saint Anne’s Seminary is the only interdiocesan Seminary that remained open this year despite the plight of COVID 19. Of course, special attention was given to sanitation and prevention measures as well and adaptation to online teaching was put in place.
Future leaders of the Church
Saint Anne Seminary with your support will continue its mission to prepare future leaders for the Church as it has given Bishops and priests for the Melkite Catholic Church in the entire world.
Faith and Wisdom
The experience of the Seminary is irreplaceable because of its unique experience that provides the adequate atmosphere for future priests to grow in faith and in wisdom.
